Memoirs at Bond Falls
When I was young my grandparents retired to their dream home up in the Northwoods. My grandfather took much joy in venturing out and discovering the many parts to the wildlife and wilderness. As a kid, I lacked the appreciation for such place. However, there was this one place that never ceased to amaze me, it seemed out of this world, fairy tale like. If grandad knew nothing else, he knew he could get me to ride along if he was going anywhere near Bond Falls. It was a bit of a ride but always worth it. Depending on the time of day and sun, or lack thereof, I always felt as if you were seeing it for the first time. We would walk down the many stairs and obstacles to the bottom, across a bridge and at times we could hop over a few boulders and stand almost in or under it. We always left feeling a bit over worked from the climb back up but his treat to the best ice cream cones I have ever had in my life always made life feel like it was going to be alright. Over time we grew older, he was unable to make the trip up and down even with his cane. I grew into an awkward young lady, and the ice cream cones didn’t seem that great anymore.
I think back now and wonder did he ever know how special those times of my life were. I can remember as if it were yesterday.
